Join us at El Camino College for our first LGBTQIA+ and allies Queer is Love Community College Student Conference as we recognize the path paved by others that came before us and have given us the courage to love who we are and be ourselves. The conference aims to create an empowering dialogue to encourage understanding and to recognize the importance of our shared humanity. While this conference is inspired by the experiences of the LGBTQIA+ community, it is for all students.
This conference is FREE of charge. Breakfast and lunch are included. Sign language interpreters and other accommodations will be available upon request.
Keynote Speaker
Bamby Salcedo
Bamby Salcedo is an internationally known transgender Latina Woman and a proud graduate of the community college system. After receiving an associate’s degree In Liberal Arts from Los Angeles Community College, Bamby obtained her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Latin@ studies from California State University Los Angeles. Bamby is the President and CEO of the TransLatin@ Coalition, a national organization aiming to address the issues of transgender Latin@s in the US. Bamby developed the Center for Violence Prevention & Transgender Wellness, a multipurpose, multiservice space for Trans people in Los Angeles.
Bamby’s talks about transgender-related issues, social justice, healthcare, social services, incarceration, immigration, detention, and professional and economic development for transgender people have had notable success. Her activism has reached governmental bodies, social justice organizations, colleges, demonstrations, rallies, and conferences around the world. Bamby shared a stage with Vice President Joe Biden at the White House's 2016 United State of Woman. In 2015, Bamby spoke at the Transgender women of Color and Violence and LGBTQ People of Color Summit and the National HIV Prevention Conference. She spoke at the United States Conference on Aids in 2009 and 2012. As facilitator with The PanAmerican Health Organization, Bamby contributed to the Blue Print for providing competent health care services for transgender people and LGBT people, fighting for Human Rights in Latin America and The Caribbean.
In the documentary TransVisible: Bamby Salcedo's Story, Bamby's words and experience evoke both tears and laughter, sobriety and inspiration. She has been featured in People en Español, Latina Magazine, Cosmopolitan, the Los Angeles Times, Los Angeles Magazine, OUT 100 and featured in the HBO documentary The Trans List, and various nationally recognized organizations. Bamby's leadership has led to the creation of community where there was none, and her work lends a critical voice to those at the intersections of race, gender, sexuality, age, social class, HIV+ status, immigration status and more.

PARKING INFORMATION
Personal Automobile
- There will be a designated parking area on the top floor of Lot C, but participants can park anywhere in Lot C other than the red reserved and blue disability stalls.
- Campus Police will not enforce parking in Lots C/D/E/F/B (the entire north side) while the event is in progress. The exceptions would be red stalls and any vehicle blocking the roadway/hazards, etc.
Bus & Drop Off
- Smaller buses/Vans may drop off students at the traffic circle between Lot C and Student Services.
- Bus Parking will be in Lot D
- Vans may park in Lot C.
CAMPUS MAP
POLICE AND CADET PRESENCE
Sgt. Robertson, cadets, and student ambassadors will be in the Lot C, Lot D, and Bookstore
area to answer questions and direct people to the Bookstore building (East Dining
Room) for the conference.
